The Discovery Museum in Newcastle were kind enough to borrow Year 4 a real life evacuee's suitcase! We had so much fun guessing what kind of things might be inside and whether it would belong to a girl or a boy...

Year 4 have been learning all about World War Two, and in particular, what it was like to be an evacuee! So it was an extra special treat when we were given an evacuee's suitcase! We explored all of the wonderful things inside the suitcase including old clothing, some little red shoes, a game of tiddlywinks, a darning whell, books and comics, family photographs and lots more! We found out that it belonged to a little girl called Olive Fletchers and we had lots of fun imagining what it would have been like for Olive to live in the countryside during the War!
We then thought about the things we would take in our suitcase if we were being evacuated! Some of us thought we would like to take toys and dolls to play with, some of us wanted to take family photos to remind us of home!
