Stop Press!

'Sorry!' from the B.B.C.!

Unfortunately, because of time over-runs in the main part of the programme, which celebrates Bruce Forsyth's career in entertainment, the producers have had to cut the opening sequences which were to have included the shots of White Mere pupils releasing balloons at 'The Gateshead Angel'.

It is possible that the 'out-takes' could be made available to school in the near future.

Stop..Stop Press!

We have received a DVD of the filming at 'The Angel of the North' from B.B.C. Productions.Pupils will be able to view it in the week commencing 10th March.

The whole class walked to Heworth City Learning College on Wednesday, 6th February, to learn how to create animations.

In the morning, everyone enjoyed using '2 Simple Animation', a program we do not have at White Mere, to create short sequences, with very many images needed to form each second of screen activity.

For taking part, the school very gratefully received a new 'Digital Blue' camera and software to enable us to continue similar work at school.

In the afternoon, four members of the class were asked to stay to work on animations using model figures. Here they are, hard at work:

      'Happy Birthday Brucie!'

We were really happy to be asked by the production team to help with filming sequences for the opening of the programme to be broadcast to mark Bruce Forsyth's 80th birthday.

The B.B.C. production team visited school on Wednesday, 30th January, 2008 and filmed children in the classroom, putting on coats in the cloakroom, leaving the school building, getting off the bus at 'The Angel of the North', walking towards the Angel and releasing balloons printed with an image of Bruce himself.

Years Three, Four and Five had a great time, which, besides allowing a short experience as an actor, also gave an insight into the work of a T.V.production team, consisting of a Director, a Researcher, two Runners, a Cameraman and a Soundman.

The team was very grateful for the help given by the school, especially Mrs.Heath, who arranged transport and organised the distribution of a series of permission forms required prior to filming.

We are looking forward to seeing how much of what was filmed appears in the opening of the programme, scheduled to be screened at the end of February.

Here are some excellent reports of the afternoon's events from members of Year Five:

The class teachers come into the yard before and after school and are happy to deal with brief queries from parents. On occasions parents may wish to discuss a particular concern about something that is occurring in school in more detail and are welcome to make an appointment in order to do so. The Head Teacher, or Deputy Head Teacher in her absence, is happy to respond to teaching, learning, school organisation queries or matters concerning pupil welfare during the school day that cannot be dealt with by the school office. We try to maintain a positive, professional relationship with parents at all times and will do our best to resolve concerns as efficiently and effectively as possible. We follow our complaints procedure in order that a fair and transparent system is in place.
