Professor Mitra works with Y6

On Thursday, 7th February, Professor Mitra , Head of the Education Technology Department, at Newcastle University came to work with Y6. He and his colleague, Dr.Dixon, set KS2 Science Sats questions and then harder G.C.S.E. problems.

Class members were asked to work in sets of four to see how cooperation improved their ability to reach a successful conclusion. One laptop was in use.

We are looking forward to hearing the results.

Here are some photographs of work in progress:

Working with the University of Newcastle

We are very pleased and honoured to have Sugata Mitra, Professor of Education Technology and a colleague, Dr.Pauline Dixon, coming to school on Thursday, 7th February, 2008 to work with Year Six.We hope it is the beginning of an important initiative with the main focus on development of our evaluation of the current and proposed 'Home-School' 'e-Learning Schemes.

Professor Mitra is a world famous scientist and advisor to the Indian Government. He is also an authority on developing cooperative learning. He is hoping to encourage use of the laptops by pupils to find solutions to problem-solving activities in Numeracy and Science.

Here are some photographs of 'Prom Night', held at Heworth Golf Club, on Monday, 9th July.

A well-organised 'Howay' event for our very smartly-dressed, impeccably-behaved young people from Year Six.

'Jungle Book' performance

After several weeks of school-based rehearsals, all of Year Six and Year Four spent the day, at Heworth Grange, in intensive preparations for the evening performance in front of friends and family members. The set and costumes transformed mortals into beasts who acted and sang their hearts out!

We are very grateful for the wonderful direction by the Heworth staff team led by Mr. Welch.

Here is a sample of the event.

Heworth C.L.C. 'Harry Potter Day'

The class visited the CLC to use excellent facilities, including 'Blue screen' technology. Using this we made movies which made us look like filmstars!
