Huge congratulations go to Abbie from Y5 who has recently won a prestigious competition organised by Nexus. The task was to use ICT to design a new 'pop' card - a 'smart card' that encourages people to use public transport more frequently. She beat over 200 entries from the region and won a fantastic I Pod touch along with £350 of free travel for the school. This is a super way for us to encourage people to reduce their carbon emissions and consequently address the climate change issue.

RoboKids
4 intrepid Y5 pupils took part in the Legorobotics competition at Heworth CLC recently. They did brilliantly,as it was the first time they had ever programmed a robot to follow a set of instructions. They demonstrated super sportsmanship and were a credit to White Mere. 'Bob' ,as they named their robot , will certainly be missed !

Reception go Bee-Bot mad
Reception really enjoyed their trip to Gateshead CLC. We were able to use the Bee-bots where are programmable 'bees'. We pressed the forward, backwards, left and right buttons to direct them around the maps. It was important to remember to press clear between giving it command if you didn't the bee-bot did everything your had programmed it to do - it was quite funny.

White Mere Whizz Kids
Y6 enjoyed learning about online e safety at Heworth. Everybody created a poster using Microsoft Office Publisher in order to encourage pupils to keep safe whilst online. It was great to view a video which made us aware of possible dangers while using the internet.
